Friday Updates

Happy Friday! We have had an AWESOME first week!

Kicking It:

Today your child received their first piece of math homework called Kicking It. It is the 3rd grade program for learning and memorizing math facts so that students will be able to use them with automaticity. Each child received a page protector, expo marker, and a copy of this week's math facts. They will receive a new set of math facts each Friday after we take the previous week's assessment. Students will have 3 minutes to complete all of the problems. The fact sheet should remain in the page protector at home and students can use the expo marker to practice writing the answers as many times as possible through the week. They should not take the page out and write directly on the paper. Please help your child by checking the facts and helping them with a timer so they can practice, practice, practice!

Kicking It connects the passing of the timed tests to the passing of belts in karate. Each test that is passed by a students earns them a colored belt. We will keep these here at school but feel free to stop in and take a look at them.

Picture Day:

Picture day is Tuesday the 20th. Please use the order form from Back to School Night.

4th Teacher:

Mr. Trujillo told us (and I told the students today) that 3rd grade was awarded another teacher for 3rd grade this year because of our large class sizes. As a result, some of the students in my class will be moved into the new class. I do not have any details yet on when this transition will happen or how. Please look for updates from Mr. Trujillo on this matter. Regardless of who your child's teacher will be, I will be sure to keep things up to date and help the students make a smooth transition when the time comes.

Starting Monday we are going to pick up the rigor. Next week please look for a nightly math Home Link and reading as well as our weekly Kicking It and Spelling.

Please email me if you have any questions or concerns!
